Ireland's Pirate Queen, Captain Grace O'Malley

Jordan Bell portrays a fictionalized version of a real-life badass from history — Captain Grace O'Malley, the Pirate Queen of Ireland — in a one-woman, partially-improvised, somewhat-rehearsed musical comedy show. It's Captain O'Malley's day at port, and it is best spent singing several rowdy Irish pub tunes and traditional sea shanties with her definitely-period-accurate acoustic-electric guitar. In between songs, she regales the crowd with epic tales of life at sea, tells terrible jests, and counter-heckles mischievous audience members into joining her crew for free. Though she'd never admit it, most dear to Grace's heart is teaching captive audiences her favorite shanties and leading them in a rousing, off-key chorus or two — or seven.
Aside from singing the praises of alcohol overconsumption and unapologetically glorifying the piratical trade, Captain Grace O'Malley is family-friendly! Somewhat. The Pirate Queen promises to save the dirty sea shanties for the asterisk shows. Parents are welcome to bring their nipperkins to said mature sets as long as they don't mind being bombarded with many, many questions on the ride home. Sláinte!
